The numerical grade applies to students in the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC) and the Secondary Education Curriculum of 2010 (SEC 2010). The letter grade is used for students in the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum. As the school goes through its transition years, it implements three (3) curriculums that differentiate the grading systems in the various curriculum years. Common to these grading schemes, however, are the school standards consistent to the Department of Education (DepEd, Philippines) standards. The grading system as an important component of the school’s academic policies is discussed in the PSB Student Handbook. For school year 2013-2014, the school implements the following grading system: Grading System in the Revitalized Kindergarten Education Program (RKP) For the cognitive development using the core learning areas, grades eligible for use in the report cards are the following: Lower Kindergarten Code Equivalent * * * * * for Excellent performance * * * * for Very Good performance * * * for Good performance * * for Fair performance * for a child who Needs more help Higher Kindergarten Code Equivalent E for Excellent performance VS Very Satisfactory performance S Satisfactory performance F Fair performance I Improving performance NI Needs Improvement For the development of life skills through assessment of other areas of development, grades eligible for use in the report cards are the following: Code Equivalent S Secure P Progressing HV Having Difficulty NA Not Assessed Grading System in the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum PSB implements the Grading System for the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum based on DepEd Order No. 31, Series of 2012 as follows: Grades 1, 2, 7, 8 Code Level of Proficiency Equivalent Numerical Value B Beginning 74% and below D Developing 75 - 79% AP Approaching Proficiency 80 - 84% P Proficient 85 - 89% A Advanced 90% and above Grading System in the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC) and in the Secondary Education Curriculum (SEC 2010) Although the framework and principles of the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum have been gradually integrated in the RBEC and SEC 2010, a student’s performance is assessed using the Pass or Fail dichotomy. The Student Handbook discusses this scheme. The final grade or rating required to earn a credit and be promoted is 75%. The general average is determined by dividing the sum of the student’s final rating in the prescribed subjects of the curriculum by the number of subjects. For the High School, the general average is determined by dividing the weighted sum of the student’s final rating in the prescribed subjects of the curriculum by the number of units allotted for each subject. The Averaging Grading System, i.e. averaging the marks for the four quarters to get the final grade, is applicable to both Elementary and High School levels. Grading System in Specialized Subjects such as Bahrain History, Arabic Language Islamic Studies and Citizenship uses the Pass or Fail dichotomy. Character Development For character and values development from Grade 1 to High School, students are assessed in terms of work habits, personal and socio-emotional skills and citizenship.
